Šípek for Rosenthal
The brand name Rosenthal today stands for international lifestyle.
Rosenthal has been an extraordinary faceted company now over 125 years. With its fascinating brands it is seen as one of the world's leading producers of up-to-date, innovative design for the well-laid table, for furniture and for giftware available in 97 countries around the globe.
Expressive unique specimens, transparent sculptures, unsurpassed delicacy and intensive colours – no other substance inspires artists to such astounding creations as the century-old material of glass. In the anniversay year 2004 Rosenthal studio-line has succeeded in updating its series of exclusive contempoaray glass art in a surprising new language of form together with the internationally acclaimed glass artist, architect and desginer Borek Šípek. The "Glass Art"collection includes 9 objects created to the highest artistic and workmanship standards: unique, strongly expressive works of art of the highest quality crystal glass in the unmistakeable style of the Czech designer Borek Šípek. This exclusive collection is characterised by expressive surface structures and translucent colours, predominantly in the tones petrol blue, olive green, orange, violet and cardinal red along with a rich interplay between forms, structures and figures. Borek Šípek's creations are both unique and incomparable. He sought inspriation from the world of flowers, using these to name his works of art after the exclusive rose varieties that adorn the expressive objects. One of the vases has been christened "Belle de Crecy": the amphora-shaped transparent and smooth body of the vase exhibits an exciting contrast with the numerous glass rings of different colours and patterns which decorate the top section of the vase like a crown. The outside of the expressive "Cymbeline" fruit bowl is adorned by colourful semi-circles in the same vain. Smaller glass objects in the collection include "Colette" and "Leander", slim, delicate vases which are available in different gently-transparent colour nuances. The five centre pieces of the collection are restricted to just 49 copies worldwide respectively, while all other articles are not limited editions. (from www.rosenthal.de)
